Welcome back to Dynamic Sensors & Calibration Tips! Read on to learn more about sensors used in high temperature turbine applications, as well as what makes ICP® sensors such an asset as references for calibration. As always, we welcome your feedback on topics of interest for upcoming articles, videos, and webinars.
High Temperature Sensors for Combustion Turbines
By Bob Metz

Accelerometer Temp Extremes
Accelerometers and pressure sensors for use on combustion turbines require special consideration during the design and manufacturing processes. Specialized applications frequently require sensors capable of operating at high temperatures (i.e. up to 1200 °F [649 °C]) while providing high accuracy, stability and reliability...

Tip of the Month

For your best accelerometer calibration system uncertainties, consider requesting a laser primary calibration for your reference accelerometer.  Laser primary calibration can reduce your single biggest uncertainty contributor by as much as 30-70% depending on frequency ranges and uncertainties claimed.

Blast from the Past:
Benefits of ICP Operation in Vibration Calibration

Exhibiting proven performance in extreme environments, ICP® operation of piezoelectric accelerometers provides excellent reference and stability over time.  The ICP mode of operation excels in operator diverse, low signal level, long cable run, and uncontrolled environments. When one considers the myriad of ICP operation benefits for general vibration measurement use, it becomes evident that these benefits minimize uncertainties in the critical competence of vibration calibration.  The following article outlines the major features that have propelled ICP vibration references to the heart of most modern vibration calibration systems.
