Flight Testing Accelerometers

While computer based design has been beneficial to aircraft design, findings from actual flight test results continue to be critical in validating those computations. This has translated into a demand for more accurate accelerometers in rigorous flight test installations.. .

Tip of the Month

When reference standards are recalibrated, the data should be compared to previous data. Ask your calibration provider if they include this service. If not, it's something that you should do upon receipt of the reference standard.

Interpreting the ISO 16063 Standard for Accelerometer Calibration
 
Rather than defining a 'laundry list' of requirements that strictly define the components and instruments used to calibrate accelerometers, ISO 16063 provides guidelines for achieving expected measurement uncertainties. These guidelines must be interpreted, then applied to the calibration system design.
