Discover Small But Mighty Modal Tools

Modal Punch and Inertial Shaker

We’d like to re-introduce you to two tools that may get overlooked or forgotten but are useful to have in your modal testing toolbox: Inertial Shakers and the Modal Punch. Both tools are well-suited for use in hard-to-reach places. Read on to learn why we think you should give this pair of handy tools a chance!

stp modal punch in hand productThe Modal Punch Model 088A is an ideal choice to reach excitation points that can’t otherwise be reached with a typical modal hammer or modal shaker, like inside an engine block. The modal punch is instrumented with a force transducer on the end for use with typical 086C series hammer tips. Instead of a typical modal hammer form factor it is, as the name implies, in the form of a punch. Simply use another non-instrumented tool to drive the punch and excite a hard-to-reach point on your test object.

Like the 088A Modal punch the inertial shaker is well-suited for use in hard-to-reach places that a typical modal shaker with stinger or modal hammer cannot be used. It is also a good choice for structural testing, transfer path analysis, and a variety of general vibration testing applications. Like a typical modal shaker, the 2002E inertial shaker can be combined with a piezoelectric force sensor (or impedance head) from PCB Piezotronics to create the ideal compact force generator with unmatched reliability, performance, and cost.
